Frigid Super Bowl raises questions about northern venues
Frigid Super Bowl raises questions about northern venues

MINNEAPOLIS — After years of planning and many millions in spending, there was one thing organizers of Super Bowl 52 couldn’t control — a Minnesota winter. The Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots played inside. But as fans were heading to U.S. Bank Stadium at noon Sunday, the temperature in Minneapolis was minus-2 degrees, with […]

The last ten minutes of Liverpool v Spurs was absolutely mental

And breathe.

If you recorded Liverpool v Spurs then we’d advise you fast forward to the 80th minute.

Liverpool were leading 1-0 after Eric Dier inadvertently set Mohamed Salah up for his 20th goal of the season in the third minute.

That’s how it stayed until the 80th minute.

You won’t be surprised to hear that Spurs’ equaliser was in part down to Loris Karius’ biscuit wrists.

The German’s weak punch dropped to Victor Wanyama on the edge of the box.

Wanyama emphatically drilled the ball into the top corner to make it 1-1.

That could genuinely have killed someone

Seven minutes later Spurs had the chance to go ahead from the penalty spot after Karius brought Harry Kane down in the area.

Kane stepped up on 99 Premier League goals but put a weak penalty straight down the middle, much to the relief of Karius.

Zero to hero.

Taking flightReuters 99 and waiting

Both teams would probably have settled for a draw, but Salah wasn’t done.

He slalomed through Ben Davies and Jan Vertonghen before dinking Hugo Lloris to make it 2-1 in injury time.

Twenty-one goals and counting for the Egyptian.

But this is the Premier League. There was still time for one more moment of madness.

Liverpool new boy Virgil van Dijk clumsily kicked Erik Lamela to give Kane a chance of redemption.

Kane stepped up and tucked the penalty away for his 100th Premier League goal with 95 minutes on the clock.

Best league in the world or just dodgy defending? Who cares.

Alexis Sanchez scores his first Man United goal but fans ruin the moment with terrible banner

The good news is Alexis Sanchez has scored his first goal in a Man United shirt.

The bad news is it was ruined bad a cringe-worthy banner.

Not that he minds of courseReuters

The Chilean forward was tripped in the box by Huddersfield keeper Jonas Lossl in the 67th minute at Old Trafford and stepped up to take the spot-kick himself.

However, his tame effort was well saved by Lossl low to Dane’s right.

Fortunately for Sanchez, the rebound fell to his left foot and allowed for an easy tap-in.

Sanchez connected well enough But he gambled on Lossl going the other way The rebound fell kindly And Sanchez couldn’t miss Not perfect, but who cares

Given it was United’s newest superstar’s first goal for the club, the home crowd’s celebrations were somewhat muted.

Perhaps because half the fans had their phones out at the time.

Although rebounds from missed penalties are always a bit hollow.

However, they count for the same as a 35-yard thunderbastard so you’d imagine Sanchez, Jose Mourinho and the fans won’t mind about the method one iota — the important thing is the ex-Arsenal player is off the mark.

His overall performance was impressive as well and for the fantasy football gaffers out there, he was comfortably Dream Team Star Man with a WhoScored rating of 9.58.

Unfortunately, United fans had previously unveiled a banner in honour of Sanchez and his beloved dogs, Atom and Humber.

And that took the shine off the day for all those sensitive to cringe-worthy content…

This is the kind of thing we expect from Arsenal fans

Mercifully, the banner was removed by stewards.

7 – No player has been fouled more often in a Premier League game this season than Alexis Sanchez was vs Huddersfield today. Targeted.

United beat the Terriers 2-0 with Romelu Lukaku steering Juan Mata’s cross past Lossl in the 55th minute to break the deadlock.

Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial were second half substitutes as the French pair were made to start the game on the bench.

Scott McTominay was the surprise starter but with three points in the bag, Mourinho’s team selection was ultimately justified.

Happy days.
