Dream Team FC
It took Carlos Bacca just 40 seconds to score the best goal you’ll see in the Europa League this season

You’ve gotta feel for Steven Gerrard, really.

Because it took just 40 seconds into his Europa League group stage debut as a manager for his Rangers side to go behind to Spanish giants Villarreal, thanks to one of the tastiest goals you’ll see this season.

Almost straight from the off, Villarreal were able to slip a through-ball from the midfield towards Carlos Bacca, who somehow beat his markers and flicked the ball over the top of Allan McGregor and into the net from outside the box.

Still, if you do feel sorry for Gerrard, then perhaps you’ll take some solace from Santi Cazorla’s wonderful outing in midfield this evening.

The former Arsenal midfielder – who was out of action for an eye-watering 668 days at the Emirates – had 11 operations after being ravaged by an Achilles injury which threatened his career and even his ability to walk.

But it seems he’s fit and ready to show us all what he can do, and spent the first-half spraying some lovely passes around the pitch to help the Yellow Submarine take control of the match.

HT: Villarreal 1 Rangers 0 – Awful start but Rangers have at least recovered to enjoy better possession & territory in last 20mins. They've done nothing with it mind, and they've been v sloppy at times. Still in it though.

Remember, this is Rangers’ first outing in Europe for eight-years, having progressed to this point of the competition after starting out in the first qualifying round.

But they’ll face a stern to make it to the next round, after drawing Spartak Moscow and Rapid Vienna, along with Villarreal, in their group.
